Influence of Fiber Orientation on Deformation of Additive Manufactured Composites

Anisotropy caused by flow-induced fiber orientation of discontinuous fibers within the extrudate in Extrusion Deposition Additive Manufacturing (EDAM) process gives rise to anisotropic shrinkage printed parts and thereby, final part deformations. Three states, described second-order tensor, were investigated determine their influence upon geometry. Two material systems including a short glass fiber-reinforced polyamide carbon polyamide. A curvilinear geometry was modeled virtually thermo-mechanical simulation, ADDITIVE3D©. The scale range 300–400 mm contained three semicircular regions connected linear regions, thereby inducing significant magnification spring-in deformation. predicted deformation for states two compared. fiber-filled same showed comparable largest residual shown correspond tensor with greatest degree anisotropy.
